خاک میں عشاق کی غبار نہیں ہے

that 'gainst you I bear grudges, you suspect in vain

know that lover's graves do not dust of doubt contain

دل سے اٹھا لطف جلوہ ہائے معانی

غیر گل آئینۂ بہار نہیں ہے

with your heart you should absorb, beauty of meaning

save the flower no mirror is for the fact of spring

قتل کا میرے کیا ہے عہد تو بارے

وائے اگر عہد استوار نہیں ہے

you have promised to slay me, I am joyful, glad

if your promise is infirm, 'twill be truly sad

تو نے قسم مے کشی کی کھائی ہے غالبؔ

تیری قسم کا کچھ اعتبار نہیں ہے

Gaalib as you swear an oath by your drunkenness

Your oath's thus beyond belief, I have to confess
